Demand for acquisition of large scale city 3D models has been increasing. Such models have been of use in many applications including navigation, driving direction pre-visualizations and augmented reality as demonstrated in Google Earth (Street view) or Microsoft Virtual Earth (Photo sync). In recent years image-based rendering is commonly used by computer graphics applications to construct virtual walk through environment. A collection of images is used to synthesize the scene instead of building a complete 3D model of the objects.
There has been enormous research in creation of most state of the art Walkthrough systems but almost all of the contemporary walkthrough systems are completely hardware dependent, all the imagery is directly stored from the capturing devices, without any real processing done in order to provide meaning to the data. This makes all the street view systems stagnant not providing enough information from the scenario to be useful for any purpose other than virtual tourism. Business user has been looking for a walkthrough system which could provide them with enough information about the location and a real time visualization to be profitable with the minimal of cost.
There are different existing systems available but following are most prominant.
- Google Street View
- Bing maps
- 3D walkthrough ( Batch 06)
but these systems have limitations
All of the contemporary walkthrough systems are completely hardware dependent. Al the imagery is directly stored from the capturing devices, without any real processing done in order to provide meaning to the data.
The main motivation for the creating this walkthrough system is to reduce the amount of hardware dependence to allow making of such systems cheap as well as making the imagery as useful as possible for the user
Current systems are quite expensive due to hardware dependency!
Current existing systems require special equipment for capturing images. i.e, Google street View uses special cars whaich have a speacial camra places on the car!
It will be a new feature in the field of virtual walk through systems. This feature is not available in the existing systems. It will allow the users to search about any particular image or panorama and results will be shown based upon the tags!
Virtual Walk-INN will over come all these limitations as well as sldo it will be using morphing techniques on the panoramic mosaics to enable smooth transition between frames providing effective visualization of the scenes providing the realistic feel to user.
